Tropical house interior in Sumba island, Indonesia

Attractive island home interior

The interior of a house on the island of Sumba, Indonesia is the result of a dream come true by a young woman from the United States. While visiting this Pacific resort, she fell madly in love with him. The girl is an avid surfer, so she dreamed of her own corner on the beach. The house, which was bought for very little money from one of the local residents, after a couple of months turned into a cozy comfortable accommodation, where it is pleasant to work as much as to relax.

Designer Elaina Myers noted that when designing a house in Indonesia, she had to face many problems, but the effort was worth it. In cases where it was not possible to complete something according to the plan, improvisation came to the rescue. The main feature of the girl calls the mobility of the interior: many elements can easily move from one place to another to diversify the design.

Wicker bench

The house stands among the luxurious rice fields. To bring their beautiful view into the home, mirrors are used that reflect nature inside the home. There are several flowers on the floor, which create an atmosphere of a kind of peace. Inside the building are also its pillar-shaped supports, which, thanks to a slightly awkward look, make the interior interesting and attractive.

On one of the walls is a traditional Balinese tapestry. The bench under it is made of tropical wood from the island of Timor, and the cushions, which can be found a little further away, are upholstered with Indonesian textiles. The bed is made in the style of a traditional Javanese lodge, and soft blankets on it are purchased from local needlewomen.

Nice atmosphere in the house

The main problem in creating the interior was the organization of additional space that would allow you to feel free in this modest house. The solution came from above: the ceiling was dismantled and the roof sealed. As a result, the space became much larger, but the main living area was not affected.

The window frames are painted a tropical turquoise. This is the homeowner’s favorite color and, along with the white tones of the walls and ceiling, it helps to maintain lightness and brightness. Before the renovation, the house was dark and gloomy, with brown window frames and a crumbling ceiling.

Quite a lot of space is occupied by a sofa, created to order specifically for the new interior. On it, the hostess often rests after exhausting workouts, comfortably sitting on a variety of pillows made of local textiles, which transfer their warmth and fill them with vitality.

Most houses on the Asian coast of the Pacific Ocean do not stand out in design, either externally or internally. This paradise of an American surfer on a small Indonesian island is a real oasis that you want to return to again and again.
